How to write an appeal that gets read

Reviewers read appeals all day. The ones that get approved are short, specific, and structured around the policy, not around how unfair the suspension feels. "This suspension is hurting my business" appears in nearly every appeal and persuades nobody, because it's true of everyone and relevant to nothing.

The structure

  1. Identify the business plainly. Name, address, what you do, how long you've operated.
  2. Name the likely policy issue yourself. "I believe the suspension relates to the business name, which previously included extra keywords." Naming it shows you understand the rule.
  3. State what changed. "The name has been corrected to match our signage and legal registration exactly." Past tense. Already done.
  4. Point to the proof. "Attached: business license, current utility bill, storefront photos showing permanent signage."
  5. Stop. No paragraphs about your family, your employees, or Google's power over small businesses. True things, wrong document.

A worked example

Business: Oak City Fitness, 123 Main St, Anytown. Independent gym operating since 2019.

Issue: I believe the suspension relates to our profile name, which a previous marketing vendor set to "Oak City Fitness - #1 Gym & Personal Training". This did not match our real-world name.

Correction: The profile name has been corrected to "Oak City Fitness", matching our signage, website, and state registration exactly. The vendor's access has been removed.

Attached: state registration, current utility bill for 123 Main St, exterior signage photo, interior photos.

If the first appeal is denied

Denials often mean the evidence didn't clearly answer the policy issue, not that the case is hopeless. Re-diagnose before re-filing: a second appeal that repeats the first usually meets the same end. Change the evidence, not just the words.
